IT Business Analyst
1995 Shell UK Exploration and Production, Aberdeen, East Anglia
- Shell had an IT section for each section of the business. This position was to work with all of the other IT sections and to collaborate with them on how projects were delivered what technology was being used, how new systems were tested, what feedback was gathered from users etc. etc.
- A most rewarding role as it allowed me to work with other IT professionals helping to focus on the business rather than the technical solution.
Senior Systems Analyst
1993 - 1994 Shell UK Exploration and Production, Aberdeen, East Anglia
- When first moving to Aberdeen I was involved in very large projects. I found that due to the size of the organisation the systems that had been developed did not quite deliver what the users wanted. I was given a role that enabled me to work on many systems and 'tweak them' such that more benefit was delivered to the business.
Systems Analyst
1991 - 1992 Shell UK Exploration and Production, Lowestoft, East Anglia
- This role allowed me to progress from building systems to designing them.
- I enjoyed this role as I found the close collaboration with users gave better results in the systems that I designed.
Programmer
1989 - 1990 Shell UK Exploration and Production, Lowestoft, East Anglia
- This role allowed me to develop my skills in building systems.
- Shell used many languages and database systems so experience was varied
Junior Programmer
1985 - Shell UK Exploration and Production, Lowestoft, East Anglia
- A placement year from university. I was lucky enough to be given the Offshore Personnel Tracking Information Tracking System to maintain for 12 months.
- This was a high profile system that monitored movements between oil platforms so was a critical system for the business.
- This role taught me that the business always comes first over and above technical solutions
Education
1985 - 1988 Sunderland University BA Hons in Computing 1983 - 1984 Great Barr Comprehensive School, West Midlands A Levels in Computing and Technical Drawing 1976 - 1982 Great Barr Comprehensive School, West Midlands GCSE - English, Maths, Computing, Technical Drawing.
